MEINBLAU
The MEINBLAU project space was founded in 1997 by the members of Meinblau e.V. as the heart of the art and studio house on the Pfefferberg in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg. From 2003–2005, the artists working on site modernized the building with EU funds under the planning and guidance of orange-architekten.
As an exhibition venue for discursive, interdisciplinary visual art of aesthetic and social relevance, the project space serves as a forum for artistic self-organization, intercultural networking of independent art and cultural practitioners and their presence in the urban public sphere.
## Exhibition Program
The program of the Meinblau project space is designed and realized by the members of Meinblau e.V. The focus of the conceived or invited projects is on thematic group exhibitions of visual art that reflect contemporary social and political content. Solo exhibitions are developed explicitly for the project space.
Lectures, symposia, artist talks, curatorial tours, discussions and teaching events offer deeper insights into the concepts. Meinblau works regionally, nationally and internationally with both art institutions and cultural practitioners from the independent scene. It regularly cooperates with independent Berlin project spaces and initiatives. Fixed partners include the sound art initiative singuhr-projekte and the Asia Contemporary Art Platform NON Berlin.
## Focus on Intercultural Exchange
The curatorial projects aim to make visible the cultural diversity of positions by artists living in Berlin and to initiate their international exchange. Since 2015, a key focus of intercultural communication has been on joint projects with East Asian countries, explicitly the two nations of the Korean peninsula. Eight projects have already emerged in this context.
## Architecture of the Meinblau Project Space
The heart of the Meinblau art and studio house is the 120m2 project space, visible from the gallery, with its funnel-shaped skylight. The vaulted space with walls up to 6 meters high requires an installation-based dialogue between the exhibited art and the architectural situation. Accordingly, the selection of projects places particular emphasis on the correspondence between presentation and spatial structure.
